Prince Sultan University – the first non-profit university in Saudi Arabia -  was established in 1998 by the people of Riyadh spearheaded by the university’s nurturer since its fruition, and the individual who pushed it to become one of the world’s best educational facilities today: HRH King Salman Bin Abdulaziz. Celebrating the late Prince Sultan Bin Abdulaziz’s return from his therapeutic trip in 1998, Prince of Riyadh (at the time) HRH Salman Bin Abdulaziz, was sure to convert this occasion into a project for growth pushing it to become a trailblazing cultural structure which provides future generations with great educational benefits in preparation for their professional lives following their studies.

Since its birth, Prince Sultan University has been home to excellence through manifesting educational brilliance. A structure that takes every opportunity to prove itself a leading institution through a plethora of continued achievements. Achievements including the recent -and first- International Conference on Sustainability: Developments and Innovations (ICSDI2022), and 7th International Conference on Data Science and Machine Learning Applications (CDMA2022), to name a few.

This institution continues to meet the highest excellence standards set by various accreditation entities, as it has gained many accreditations over the years. More recently, acquiring International accreditation by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) and Computing Accreditation Commission (CAC) for its Computer Science and Information Systems programs. In addition to the previous, the College of Business Administration (CBA) obtained business accreditation from the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB). The AACSB has also granted accreditation to PSU’s Accounting Program, marking PSU the 2nd private higher education institution outside the United States to receive said accreditation.

Within itself, Prince Sultan University has an international indexed journal, study abroad programs, partnerships with higher education institutions worldwide (e.g., US, Spain, Ireland, Italy, Poland, and Malaysia), and a variety of top tier graduate and undergraduate academic programs distributed among six different colleges.

The future holds more for this great institution as it continues to shine among many; through internal and external achievements, and continued support of a sustainable future through quality higher education, research, and innovation.

PSU is home to many active offices and centers in a variety of different domains, all working to enrich their respective fields and purposes through creativity and innovation. Those centers include: Research and Initiatives Center, International Affairs Office, E-Learning Center, Strategic Planning and Development Center, Evaluation and Academic Accreditation Center, and the recently established Jubilation Office aimed at spreading joy within the university. PSU also hosts endless student driven extracurricular activities and clubs such as Law Club, Cybersecurity Club, Namaa Club, and PSU Youth Club to name a few. All creating an atmosphere where the student’s hobbies and interests live in the same establishment in which they study.

Our outstanding collection of centers, offices, and student clubs are met with many labs under each college, each of them meant to carry and study specific tracks within PSU’s colleges, these labs include: The Robotics and Internet-of-Things Lab (RIOTU), Security Engineering Lab (SEL), AI and Data Analytics Lab (AIDA), Educational Research Lab (ERL), and the Applied Linguistics Lab among many.

Through these initiatives, Prince Sultan University continues to live up to its motto of Excellence in Higher Education. Holding its esteemed name high up on the list of Saudi Arabia’s best educational establishments.

In the last few years, Prince Sultan University has increasingly given research more attention and weight. This ultimately contributed to the establishment of the Research and Initiatives Center (RIC), in September of 2017. Since then, the University has taken several brave decisions to promote research resulting in several new research programs and initiatives.

First, the University adopted a decentralized strategy for research governance, giving colleges their financial independence and decision making about conference attendance, project proposal evaluation, research labs, to name a few.

This change from the fully centralized research strategy to a decentralized one has radically improved the research productivity and increased the motivation of researchers. Additionally, several research programs were established, allowing faculty members to invite top scholars as distinguished visiting professors, and also invite Ph.D. students from abroad for research internships of one to six months. These are just samples of the initiatives that Prince Sultan University has made, and that resulted in a highly positive impact on the research environment.

At PSU, we are very proud and enthusiastic about the achievements made in research, and we are working forward to reach the highest level of excellence in research in the near future.

As a result, lots of achievements were made within a short period of time, such as:

- Substantial increase of research quality namely Impact and Quartile ranking both in Scopus and WoS.
- Granted US patents for the first time in 2021
- Increase of active researchers more than three times compared to 2019.
- Number of distinguished faculty members and researchers with international awards and recognitions boosted.
- Ranked first in CITATIONS according to THE Arab Region Ranking. We have first joined THE world ranking in 2021.
- Increase of overall faculty satisfaction about research after being a point of weakness
- Establishment of 17 research labs and groups by 2021 while having only one lab in 2019.
- Involvement of undergraduate students in research and innovation through participation in publications with research labs, undergraduate research forums, and business incubation programs.
- Increased of the number of funded research projects
- Establishment of a business incubation program as part of innovation activities.
- Increase the number of international conferences organized by the University from 2 in 2019 to 7 in 2021.
