About University of Texas at Tyler

Set up in 1971, the University of Texas at Tyler is one of the 14 institutions that make up the University of Texas System.

Students can study over 80 bachelor’s and master’s degree programmes such as Arts and Sciences (art, biology, chemistry, criminal justice, economics, English, history, mass communication, mathematics, music, political science, social sciences, Spanish, speech communication), Business and Technology (accounting, computer information systems, computer science, finance, human resource development, industrial technology, information technology, management, marketing), Education and Psychology, Engineering (civil, electrical, mechanical; construction management) and Nursing and Health Sciences. Graduates in education, engineering and nursing often have higher exam results than other students in Texas universities.

Available varsity sports are baseball, basketball, cross country, golf, soccer, softball, tennis, track and field and volleyball. Students take part in NCAA Division III championships. In addition, there are over 80 student organisations available to join, including sororities and fraternities, the American Society of Civil Engineers Student Chapter, Student Government Association, African Student Organization, Art Club, Cycling Team, Nurses Christian Fellowship, Muslim Students Association and others.

The 259-acre Tyler campus is located alongside a lake bordering pine and oak forests, by the eastern limits of Tyler, a city of about 100,000 people.

Some famous alumni include politician Shirley J. McKellar, attorney and politician Bryan Hughes, Emmy Award winning producer, director and writer Allen R. Morris and television producer Billy Sorrentino.
