The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology

Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) was established in 1991 as the first research university in Hong Kong and has become one of the most esteemed universities worldwide. Impressive research achievements by HKUST scholars have made significant global impacts, including the development of a simple but robust blood test from Chinese patient data for the early detection and screening of Alzheimer’s Disease, the creation of the world’s first spherical artificial eye, and the production of anti-microbial coatings for the prevention and treatment of COVID-19. Many of the university’s faculty, students, and graduates have become trailblazing entrepreneurs, founding prominent global start-ups such as DJI, Pudu Robotics, and Smartsens.

HKUST has been a champion in innovation, with researchers having fabricated the smallest single-walled carbon nanotubes, bringing revolutionary changes and paving the way for many new applications in hi-tech electronics, IT, and biology. We were also among the first in Asia to offer massive open online courses (MOOC) and were an early adopter of online learning. We offer a variety of initiatives to attract high-caliber students and talent from around the world, including the “30 for 30” Talent Acquisition Campaign, which aims to recruit 30 senior faculty members across six strategic research areas.

As our newly established campus in Nansha, Guangzhou, HKUST(GZ) embraces a pioneering “hub” structure to facilitate cross-disciplinary work and expand the synergies in education, research, and knowledge transfer in the Greater Bay Area.
