Come join in our crusade

May 30, 2013

The Tories have unleashed the biggest assault on ordinary people for generations. It needs to be met head-on.

The People’s Assembly Against Austerity is a key opportunity to bring together all those who want to stop the cuts and the devastation they are bringing to millions of people in the UK, and to launch the next steps in the fightback. As students we are committed to confronting the Tories’ vandalism of our education system and our futures.

Young people are being forced out of education, students are being plunged into poverty and cuts are having a devastating impact on our colleges and universities. We must resist these attacks with all our strength.

We urge students from across the country to join the People’s Assembly Against Austerity so that we can come together to discuss the next steps in the fight for free education and against tuition fees, a lifetime of debt and cuts to education, while taking to the next level the struggle to bring back the education maintenance allowance. As students we pledge to play a full role in the wider movement against austerity by supporting all campaigns against cuts and privatisation, linking up with trade unions and others fighting against retrenchment to build a movement for social justice.

The assembly can play a key role in ensuring that this uncaring government faces a movement of opposition broad and powerful enough to generate successful and coordinated action, including strikes.

The People’s Assembly Against Austerity will meet at Central Hall, Westminster on 22 June.
