Staff at King’s vote to strike

三月 22, 2010

Members of the University and College Union at King’s College London have voted to strike over job cuts.

In the ballot, 70 per cent of staff who voted backed a strike, while 85 per cent supported action short of a strike. The turnout was 64 per cent.

The management at King’s has proposed 205 redundancies.

The union said the “nature and timing of industrial action will become much clearer in the next few days”.

Unrest over job cuts is spreading across higher education.

UCU members at the universities of Sussex and Leeds had already voted for strike action, and the Leeds vote prompted a deal with management.

Ballots on industrial action opened today (22 March) at University College London and the University of Westminster.
