Universities will no longer need to involve the Privy Council on all matters of governance, the Government confirmed this week. The Department for Education and Skills said institutions would no longer need to seek approval for "non-key" changes, such as amendments to their internal structure. But other issues would remain under Privy Council control because they were in the public interest. These include changes to degree-awarding powers and governance structures.
