Gloucestershire/Bath - Travel woes compounded

When the dust settled after the travel chaos caused by the recent eruption of the Eyjafjallajokull volcano in Iceland, some university staff were left facing the loss of holiday time. The University of Gloucestershire said on its website last week that employees left stranded abroad on holiday as a result of the flight ban would have to extend their breaks. "Where return to work on the planned day has not been possible ... additional days of absence should, initially, be taken from annual leave," it said. Another institution that has set out guidelines online is the University of Bath. "Staff who have been on university business and are unable to return will be expected to continue working until they are able to do so," it said.
