SOMERVILLE COLLEGE, OXFORD. Fiona Caldicott, the first woman president of the Royal College of Psychiatrists and chairman of the Conference of Medical Royal Colleges, has been elected principal. She will succeed Catherine Hughes.

HUMANITIES RESEARCH BOARD BRITISH ACADEMY

Malcolm Andrew, professor of English at Queens' University Belfast, has been elected to the English panel of the Humanities Research Board.

John Dodge, professor of child health at Queens' University Belfast, has been elected paediatric vice-president.
