Nearly 20 years after the publication of the previous edition comes the much enlarged fourth edition of the neurobiologists' neuroanatomy textbook. Profusely illustrated with half-tone and line drawings, mercifully now labelled in English rather than Latin, it is a colossal and comprehensive work: the chapter on the neocortex occupies 188 pages, for example.

A detailed chapter on the blood supply of the brain and spinal cord is very welcome and of great potential use for neurosurgeons. Neuroanatomical it may be, but it is very topical with regard to the information concerning development, structure, function and neuropathology. You could not be expected to read this book right through, but you will undoubtedly expect to refer to it frequently; it will act as the arbiter of neuroanatomical arguments, disputes and quibbles.

Who is it for? The neuroscience laboratory or a neuroanatomical zealot.

Presentation - Outstanding and generous.

Would you recommend it? Yes, for the library or for the research group.
