From a log cabin in 1786 to today's 132-acre main campus in the city's Oakland district and four regional campuses, the university has matured into an international centre of learning and research. It comprises 15 undergraduate, postgraduate and professional schools with a full-time faculty of around 3,800 serving some 34,000 students.
