About University of Lisbon

The University of Lisbon (ULisboa ) was founded in 1911. In 2013, it joined forces with the Technical University of Lisbon, making it the largest university in Portugal and a leading one within wider Europe.

Comprising eighteen faculties, ULisboa offers 400 degree programmes at undergraduate and postgraduate level. The university has received international recognition over the years, and participates in a number of mobility programmes including Erasmus, Erasmus Mundus and Tempus.

It also accepts more than 5,000 international students – around 10% of its total cohort – who represent 100 different countries between them. With a view to attracting greater numbers of international students, many of ULisboa’s courses have started being taught in English.

ULisboa is also home to 18 schools and more than 100 research units, supported by 4,000 academic staff.

University accommodation includes nine student residencies, which assist with integrating international students into the local culture and works with other universities to promote collaboration.

It hosts wide range of cultural events on an annual basis, including exhibitions, concerts and conferences. It is also affiliated with a number of local museums in such fields as geology, anthropology, zoology and astronomy.

As the capital of Portugal, Lisbon offers history and culture, shopping, restaurants, nearby beaches and a vibrant nightlife.

ULisboa prides itself on being deeply involved with Portuguese society and the Lisbon metropolitan area, dedicated to making the city one of European’s great capitals of culture and science.
