Famous for its plethora of bicycles and bicyclists, as well as London double-decker buses ridden by many of its 31,000-plus students, Davis claims another distinction - best-funded student government in the US, with a $10.5 million annual operating budget. In 1909, its street address was renamed after its founder, State Agricultural Society secretary Peter J. Shields.
