Named after New Zealand PM William Massey, the university began life as an agricultural college in 1928. Expansion brought university status in 1964 and later new campuses in Auckland and Wellington. More than 36,000 students are taught by around 1,100 staff in five colleges: business; creative arts; education; humanities and social sciences; and science.
