Many traditions at the 143-acre campus of this research university are Scottish, as was its founder, Andrew Carnegie. CMU is one of the few American universities to offer a degree in bagpipes and it counts at least 16 Nobel, 41 Emmy and four Oscar winners among its alumni. It has more than 11,300 students.
