With Martin Luther King among its alumni, BU's Methodist roots lie with the Newbury Biblical Institute founded in 1839. Rebranded in 1869 with its current name, BU describes itself as non-sectarian, offering 250 programmes to more than 32,500 students on its 133-acre Charles River and medical campuses.
