University of Southampton - Crystal clear

May 27, 2010

A £3.5 million state-of-the-art facility is being set up in southern England to help scientists across the UK study chemical structures at the atomic and molecular levels. The National X-ray Crystallography Service at the University of Southampton's School of Chemistry will support and develop research excellence in chemistry, biochemistry and the physical sciences. Funding is being provided by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council to deliver the service over the next five years. Crystallography involves beaming X-rays at crystals to help determine fundamental chemical structures in compounds such as enzymes and new drugs.
