* Oxford University has appointed the following: Stephen Davies , professor of chemistry, Waynflete professorship of chemistry and a fellowship of Magdalen College; Phillip Ligrani , professor of mechanical engineering at the University of Utah, Donald Schultz professor of turbomachinery and a fellow of St Catherine's College; Antony Galione , Wellcome senior fellow in biomedical research and professor of pharmacology, to a statutory professorship of pharmacology and a fellow of Lady Margaret Hall; Harvey Whitehouse , professor of anthropology at Queen's University Belfast, professor of social anthropology and a fellow of Magdalen College; and Sue Cunningham , development director at Christ Church College, Oxford, director of development for the university.

* Queen Mary, University of London, has appointed Andrew Le Sueur , Barber professor of jurisprudence at Birmingham University, professor of public law.

* Sally MacDonald , formerly deputy director, has been appointed director of museums and collections at University College London.
