The 2013 THE 100 Under 50 will be published here on 19 June at 21.00 (BST).

The THE 100 Under 50 is a ranking of the top 100 universities under 50 years old. It provides a glimpse into the future, showcasing not those institutions with centuries of history, but the rising stars which show great potential. The table employs the same 13 separate indicators as the World University Rankings, but the methodology has been carefully re-calibrated to reflect the special characteristics of younger universities, giving less weight to subjective indicators of academic reputation.

The rankings will be published here, with full analysis of the results and expert commentary, on 19 June, and in a special supplement of Times Higher Education magazine on 20 June. They will be discussed, in a session with the UK's minister for science and universities, David Willetts, at the Wellington College Festival of Education on 21 June.

"The Times Higher Education 100 Under 50 echoes the Alternative Investment Market by seeking to identify the 'precocious elite' that do not necessarily have the historical capital that plays well elsewhere but can mask emerging excellence."
Julian Beer, pro vice chancellor at the University of Plymouth

"Close examination of the THE 100 Under 50 shows that new universities are not just pale imitations of Oxbridge or the Ivy League... new universities offer different opportunities... many emphasise impact and applied research pioneering innovative courses and partnerships."
Peter Coaldrake is chair of the Australian Technology Network

"These are exciting times for anyone involved in education, and Times Higher Education's pioneering 100 Under 50 ranking not only provides a welcome insight into the rising stars of global higher education, but also heralds a shifting world order in innovation and research. In my opinion, it is the best ranking of its kind."
Antony Seldon, master of Wellington College
