Established in 1989, Yuan Ze University labels itself the youngest and "most energetic" of Taiwan's top universities. Despite its youthfulness, Yuan Ze has been recognised as a benchmark for new universities - its motto is "Sincerity, Diligence, Thrift, Prudence". Boasting five faculties, it caters for more than 9,000 students, who can choose from more than 12,000 degree programmes. Its 330-plus full-time faculty members, 86 per cent of whom are educated to PhD level, contributed to it being the first Taiwanese university to win the National Quality Award in 2003.
