Born of a primary school founded by East European immigrants in 1886, Yeshiva offers a curriculum combining Orthodox Judaism with secular knowledge in the liberal arts. In its Moorish Revival-style beit midrash (Torah study hall), writer Chaim Potok and thousands of others have studied. Today, around 4,700 faculty look after about 6,500 students.
