Established in 1847 and with claims to be the first university anywhere to accept creative work in the fine arts on an equal footing with academic research, IU - whose graduates include Tennessee Williams and actor Gene Wilder - is the academic home to more than 30,300 students and around 2,150 faculty in 11 colleges.
