Jesuit priest John Carroll founded Georgetown in 1789, the same year that the US Constitution took effect: today, it is the country's oldest Catholic university. Its 104-acre main campus, just above the Potomac River, and two satellites house nine schools, where a faculty of some 2,000 academics and around 15,300 students follow the Jesuit way of scholarship.
