Founded in 1920, Swansea University has more than 12,000 students and offers more than 500 undergraduate and 130 postgraduate courses. In recent years, the university has invested heavily in research and opened the Institute of Life Science in June 2007, a 50 million facility. Famous alumni include broadcaster Mavis Nicholson and members of the Manic Street Preachers.
