Inventor Samuel Morse was on the 14-strong faculty when New York University (NYU) opened its doors in 1831. Today, it has more than 3,000 full-time members offering 2,500 courses to around 14,000 students. With five major sites in Manhattan and its heart in Greenwich Village, it also operates outposts in Africa, Asia, Europe and South America.
