Known by the acronym CWRU, Case Western began life in 1826 as Western Reserve College in Hudson, Ohio, when some early classes were held in the Cleveland home of its founder, philanthropist Leonard Case Jnr. In 1882, it moved 30 miles north where today, its 155-acre campus accommodates some 9,800 students and around 2,600 scholars.
