University of Brighton - Cash for design archive

For the first time, a university's design archives have been nationally recognised through a grant from the Higher Education Funding Council for England. Housed in the University of Brighton's Faculty of Arts, the archive consists of 18 collections of visual and textual material, with a stress on 20th-century British design. The £180,000 three-year grant follows a major review of university museums and galleries led by Sir Muir Russell, former vice-chancellor of the University of Glasgow, which resulted in Hefce extending its funding to a wider range of collections. The Women's Library at London Metropolitan University and the British Cartoon Archive at the University of Kent also received awards.
