Chester and Bath - Mortuary degrees launched

February 14, 2008

The science of embalming bodies and other skills key to the mortuary profession are to be taught in a new foundation degree, the first of its kind in the UK. The mortuary science degree launched by the University of Chester is one of two courses aimed at the profession. The second, to be offered by the University of Bath beginning in September, is a non-science degree aimed at funeral directors. The Chester course will cover biological chemistry, cell and tissue science, anatomy and physiology, the biological markers of death and decomposition and systemic pathology. The degree, to be offered at the University of Bath's Centre for Death and Society, will focus exclusively on the social, cultural and historical aspects of the profession.
