THE Awards 2010: winners announced

November 25, 2010

What do a rubbish-collecting recommissioned milk float, “magnetricity” and the bombardier beetle have in common? They have all played a part in helping academics and their universities triumph in the Times Higher Education Awards 2010.

If proof were ever needed of the imagination, innovation and sheer diversity of UK higher education’s output, it’s here. From a scheme training researchers to become leaders and managers to a nonchemical process for removing arsenic from groundwater, the ideas and initiatives keep on coming.

In the roll call of academic excellence, special mention must go to the University of York, which takes the coveted top accolade. Its powerful mix of academic excellence, scientific discovery and social inclusion earns it the title of University of the Year 2010.

We congratulate each of our very deserving winners and salute all 107 shortlisted candidates.
