THE Awards dotted line

The Times Higher Education Awards are now in their fifth year and are firmly established in the world of higher education.

Once again, the amazing display of talent in UK higher education astounded us, from the lecturer who developed a "Haptic Cow" to teach veterinary students, through to the project helping students with disabilities enter the job market, the fashion school for young South Africans affected by the HIV virus and the research team working to restore the Cutty Sark.

With so many brilliant people and ideas, deciding who to recognise from an impressive shortlist often provoked fierce debate among the judges. But it was gratifying for our panel to have so many strong entries to choose from across most categories, leading one judge to exclaim at the end of the judging process: "You know, we really do work in a great sector."

Congratulations to all!
