This anthology brings together a number of papers in contemporary analytic metaphysics with numerous literary pieces on metaphysical themes. It is structured in five parts: ontology, time and time travel, identity and personal identity, freedom, possible worlds and modality. Sections include some important recent contributions to the defining problems in each of the main issues in metaphysics as well as excellent papers on less central topics, such as David and Stephanie Lewis’ article on the metaphysics of holes. In my view, the number of non-philosophical contributions could have been cut down and papers by non-contemporary philosophers included: J. M. E. McTaggart on time or David Hume on personal identity would have been welcome additions. Nevertheless, this collection includes some great papers and would work well as a textbook for an undergraduate course in metaphysics.

Who is it for? Upper-level undergraduates and general readers interested in analytic metaphysics.

Presentation Forty one contributions prefaced by introductions, but no suggestions for further reading.

Would you recommend it? Yes, it offers a good overview of some topics in metaphysics.
