Pork lightning strikes once

Ken Smith bemoans the fact that the University of Poppleton does not appear in the Index at the back of Times Higher Education ('You're making this up", Letters, 6 September). He may be reassured that the abilities of Jamie Targett, Poppleton's thrusting director of corporate affairs, extended to Poppleton briefly appearing in an internal list of universities put together by a junior (and somewhat naive) administrator at the Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council.

Unfortunately, Poppleton did not win funding.
