Imperial College London - Heap is on

A tonne of food waste will be saved from landfill every week by a London college thanks to a newly designed composting unit. The device at Imperial College London has been created on the back of research from the department of civil and environmental engineering, and will turn every scrap of food waste from its South Kensington campus' food outlets into compost. Imperial said that the savings made in transportation costs and landfill charges would recoup the unit's £140,000 cost within two years.
