The world's first purpose-built Institute of Palliative Care has opened in south London. Costing £10 million, it is reported to be the only organisation in the world solely dedicated to research into end-of-life care and improvement of the services provided to dying patients. The institute is based at the college's Denmark Hill Campus, adjacent to King's College Hospital.
