Anthony Challinor , of the University of Cambridge, has been awarded the Royal Astronomical Society 's Michael Penston prize for his PhD thesis on the cosmic microwave background.
The University of the West of England has awarded honorary doctorates of science to: Beryl Corner , for her contribution to paediatric medicine and to female emancipation in the medical profession; Pamela Enderby , for her contribution to speech and language therapy and to rehabilitation research; and Sir Leonard Peach , for his contribution to public service and to the improvement of management, education and training in the National Health Service and other related professions.
