Successful primary course closes

The University of Surrey has closed its primary postgraduate teacher training programme, despite a very good inspection report. A recommendation for closure was accepted by the university council last week on the grounds that the course was too small to be financially viable.

None of the 60 applicants had been accepted on to the course before a decision was made. The secondary PGCE programme will remain, and be "strengthened", the university said.
