THES fellow off to Kenya

Michael Dutton, the 1998 Times Higher Education Supplement Exchange Fellow (pictured right), will use his award to visit Moi University in Kenya to foster closer links between its faculty of health sciences and the University of Natal, Durban.

Professor Dutton, head of Natal's department of physiology, hopes his visit will promote research, staff exchanges, collaboration and student training.

He is the 26th Commonwealth academic to benefit from the award since it was established in the early 1970s. Since a Ghanaian academic spent a month in India in 1974, lecturers and researchers from 15 Commonwealth countries have taken advantage of the scheme, which is administered by the Commonwealth awards division of the Association of Commonwealth Universities.

Kenya has been one of the most favoured destinations. India and Malaysia are also popular.

Many of the fellowship-holders have studied development-related issues in education, agriculture and forestry, health and medicine.
