Jonathan Dollimore, former professor in the graduate research centre for the humanities at the University of Sussex, professor of English and comparative literary studies, with effect from October 1.

John Campbell, fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering, has been appointed to the chair of casting technology. The chair is sponsored by T&N plc.

Julian Gardner, professor of the department of the history of art at the University of Warwick, has been invited to be distinguished visiting professor in medieval studies.

Keele University

Carole Hackney, former research fellow in biochemistry at UMIST and in zoology at the University of Manchester, has been appointed professor of auditory neuroscience.
